Abstract
"North by East" piece reporting that Ruth Keene and David Schroeder, who want to establish a general store in Lamoine, have spearheaded a petition that would lift the prohibition on the sale of beer and wine. The pair say they need the change to assure the profitability of their proposed store. Estimates on the number of towns in Maine that still have bans on liquor sales vary from one or two to twenty-five or so. According to Stu Marckoon, Lamoine's administrative assistant, there was no opposition to Keene and Schroeder's petition. Alcohol is available just down the road in Ellsworth.
