Abstract

"North by East" piece on Al Berard of Sanford, who has won first prize for his giant pumpkins for six years running at the Cumberland County Fair. His personal best was a 693-pound pumpkin he grew in 1994, and he's aiming for a thousand-pounder, the Holy Grail of the pumpkin-growing business.
