Abstract
Article about sixty-five-year-old Bill Coperthwaite of Bucks Harbor, the founder of the Yurt Foundation. Coperthwaite, a native of Aroostook County and a graduate of Bowdoin College, is a retired teacher, who began experimenting with yurt design over thirty years ago. He designed the three-level yurt on his Bucks Harbor property with the help of students from Earlham College in the 1970s, after transporting all of the lumber to the site by canoe. Coperthwaite says that the purpose of his Yurt Foundation is to teach people how to live more simply.
