Abstract

"What's in a Picture?" 1937 photograph, with detailed caption, showing journalist Al Mingalone, of Paramount News, dangling in mid-air from a bunch of thirty-two weather balloons over Old Orchard Beach. Mingalone had been trying to house-hop with the balloons tethered to a car bumper. Mingalone had his camera rolling and kept it rolling when his lifeline snapped and the balloons shot hundreds of feet in the air. A rescue effort ensued, and the newsreelman was brought to the ground unharmed, on a North Kennebunkport farm.
