Abstract
"North by East" piece about a dozen students in the third through the sixth grades at the Pemetic Elementary School in Southwest Harbor, who formed the Pemetic Problem Solvers under the sponsorship of teacher Rita Turner and, with the help of Maine Coast Heritage Trust, worked to convince the town selectmen to support a conservation easement protecting their skating pond, Chris's Pond, from development. The students' presentation before the town meeting in 1994 was presented by 12-year-old Jessica Sattler.
