Abstract

Although mocha-ware was never made in Maine, the brightly colored pottery was a staple in Maine households of the early nineteenth century. It was shipped in huge quantity from English pottery-manufacturing centers. As it was cheap and fragile, much mocha-ware was simply discarded.
