Abstract
"North by East" piece with a tribute to Lew Dietz of Rockport, who died in late April at the age of 90. He was a founding member of Down East in 1954, contributed many articles to it and other magazines, and developed the "Jeff White, Young Woodsman" series of boys' books. He wrote some 20 books, including "Night Train at Wiscasset Station" and "A Seal Called Andre," which he wrote in collaboration with Rockland harbor master Harry Goodridge. His second marriage was to painter Denny Winters, who was a founder of Maine Coast Artists.
