    Abstract

    "North by East" piece on a fund set up by Percival Baxter, the genius of Maine wilderness preservation, that was recently used to purchase 2,669 acres of forest and riverfront on the southwest border of Baxter State Park. The tract includes five miles of frontage on the West Branch of the Penobscot River, plus four miles of the Appalachian Trail.
