Abstract

"North by East" piece on the new U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zone Map, the first redrawing since 1990, which acknowledges the "zone creep" that many parts of Maine, particularly the coast, have seen in recent years. Coastal Maine from Kittery to about Rockland, formerly Zone Five, has been reclassified as Zone Six.
