Abstract
"The Talk of Maine" piece on how the Kennebec River has rebounded with fish, including Atlantic salmon; bird life; and aquatic insects since the Edwards Dam in Augusta was dismantled five years ago. Mill Park is the final resting place of the dam. The deliberate destruction of the dam sparked the removal of other dams in Maine and set a national precedent. Since its removal, more than 140 dams have been removed nationwide. All of the gloomy predictions about opening the dam failed to materialize. With a history of the dam and details on the fight to remove it.
