Abstract

"North by East" piece on how Maine was chosen by Virginia-based Smithfield Foods as a test market for a higher-fat pork. Apparently the choice of Maine was driven by Hannaford Brothers Supermarkets' reputation for retailing rather than by the high percentage of obese Mainers.
