Abstract

"Down East Bookshelf" piece on "A Fisherman's Guide to Maine,"a book by Kevin Tracewski. The book is the result of seven years of work and a lifetime of angling. It is a guide to good fishing holes as well as a history of the sport in Maine. The author, a teacher of biology at the University of Maine, uses the book in an unobtrusive way to advance the cause of preserving Maine's best fishing by highlighting the problems it faces. With brief notes on "Staying Put in Lincolnville, Maine: 1900 - 1950," by Diane Roesing O'Brien, and "Meritocracy: A Love Story," a novel by Jeffrey Lewis, a screenwriter who summers in Castine.
