Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on Look's Gourmet Food Company in Whiting. New owners Mike Cote, 50, and his partner Cynthia Fisher bought the old Look's Cannery. The couple expanded the product line and placed 26 products with Wild Oats. Sales were up 50 percent from last July to July 2005. With details on Maine canneries, which thrived until the 1950s and the rise of frozen foods. Look's was the last remaining old-line cannery in the state. Its products now give lie to the assumption that canned foods lack flavor.
