Abstract
The Heal Black Granite Quarry near Lincolnville Beach has become a four-acre Eden, thanks to gardener Ken Cleaves, who took 23 years to realize his vision, working alone and without power equipment. His serpentine stone creations showcase the black granite rubble, and the effect of his native plantings is serene and deliberate. He also tests plants seldom seen in Maine in the land's numerous microclimates. Now in his early sixties, Cleaves still works from dawn until sundown.
