Abstract
The Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick, under executive producer Michael Guptill, 52, sits on the Guptill farm, along with a farmhouse built by his ancestors that is over than 300 years old. Guptill's father, the late S. Carleton Guptill, a farmer and a drama teacher, stopped dairy farming and opened the Playhouse in 1972 in a century-old barn. The theater relies heavily on local talent and the loyalty of returning employees, actors, and patrons.
