Abstract

A diagnosis of the state's economic ills, with prescriptions for solutions. The problems include Maine's high tax burden, a transportation infrastructure that is underutilized and in need of repair, stalled telecommunications growth in broadband Internet access and cell phone coverage, high health care and health insurance costs, a dearth of affordable housing in many towns and cities, and a culture of ingrained pessimism.
