Abstract

"What's in a Picture?" piece on a 1980 potato blockade by Maine farmers who felt their livelihoods were being threatened by subsidized Canadian potatoes. On March 27, dozens of growers drove trucks to several northern Maine border crossings and dumped thousands of potatoes in the roads. The pile shown here was deposited on the Perth/Andover crossing in Fort Fairfield.
