Abstract

Portland's Center for Grieving Children, opened in 1988 by Bill Hemmens, was at the time only the third such center in the country. Today the center is a national model that offers services to some 4,000 people annually. It supports outreach programs, a multicultural program, and a program serving families facing life-threatening illness, among other offerings.
