Abstract
"What's in a Picture?" piece on a "radome" built in 1962 in Andover, by AT&T, Bell Laboratories, and NASA, to send and receive television signals from the Telstar I satellite. Some 25,000 school children and tourists each year visited the bulbous contraption, a 16-story polyester fabric structure over a 70-foot-high rotating horn antenna. The local high school still bears the name "Telstar," though the radome was dismantled 25 years ago.
