Abstract
Maine has been a pioneer in environmental studies since the late 1960s, a niche well-represented by Unity College and Bar Harbor's College of the Atlantic. Maine colleges have created a thriving culture of sustainability courses, degree programs, research opportunities, and institutional initiatives. With an in-depth look at how programs at COA, Unity College, University of Maine at Orono, Bowdoin College, UMaine at Presque Isle, and Colby College are leading the way in sustainability measures that span agriculture; wind, solar, and biofuel power; and climate change research.
