Abstract

“Making it in Maine” piece about the CM Almy company, one of the country’s largest producers of clerical vestments and liturgical goods. The company, which was founded in 1892 as a New York tailor shop factory, has a factory in Pittsfield that employs about 80 people. The company’s product line has changed with changes in the religious landscape. For example, women’s clerical blouses make up about a quarter of the company’s shirt sales, while 35 years ago, they carried no women’s apparel at all.
