Abstract

Maine’s newest communal island retreat is a result of a party game “Cards Against Humanity,” where players match cards containing silly phrases to cards containing provocative prompts. With proceeds from the $15 fee to participate, the company bought Birch Island in Waldo County for $200,000, renamed it Hawaii 2, and mailed every contributor an “exclusive license” to a square foot of it. Winners muse what they will do with their piece of land.
