Abstract

The U.S. Department of Environmental Protection is proposing to enact a ban on pesticide use where working bees are present on a farm. However, many of Maine’s bees are imported and live in hives, making the absolute ban not necessary as the bees can be moved when pesticide application is needed. Maine's blueberry crop relies heavily on imported bees and could be harmed by this ruling. The public can comment on the proposed rule until the end of July 2015. [image]
