Abstract

An interview with Charles Buki of CZB, a community and economic development company that helps communities identify current economic and demographic trends that would enable them to spur economic development and growth. Buki offered his company’s services pro bono to the town of Millinocket, after reading an article in the New York Times about the town’s decline since the Northern Paper Mill closed. The conclusions of the study received mixed reactions, with some people feeling the conclusions were a harsh assessment of what the town needs to do for an economic recovery. The author explains his reasoning behind the proposed recommendations.
