Abstract

The Muhammed Ali/Sonny Liston fight that took place in Lewiston in 1965 inspired then Portland 10-year old Bob Russo to become a boxing trainer and promoter. Working with individual fighters until 1992 when he founded the Portland Boxing Club, Russo was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. He has promoted over 100 boxing shows and has produced winners at every amateur level, including five in the Olympic trials. Stories about Liston/Ali fight are included. [image]
