Abstract
Maine is often divided into subregions (for example Midcoast, Down East), however they are unofficial designations with even the boundaries being debated. The Maine Tourism Association has assigned descriptive names to different regions, such as The Maine Highlands, The Maine Beaches, Maine Lakes & Mountains, DownEast & Acadia, but still the boundaries are nebulous.
