A photo essay celebrating five of Maine's remaining general stores: Northstar Variety in New Sweden, Owls Head General Store in Owls Head, Berry's in West Forks, the Island Store on Isle au Haut, and the Otis General Store in Otis. An introductory article explores the enduring value of general stores to the communities that depend on them.
