Abstract
The Nickles-Sortwell House on Main Street in Wiscasset, built by Captain William Nickles in the early 1800s, was sold on the death of Nickles in 1815. It was operated as a hotel and public house off and on until its purchase by Alvin Sortwell of Cambridge around the turn of the century, and was bequeathed to the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities nearly forty years ago.
