Abstract

Today 90 percent of Maine island acreage is forested, up from 10 percent a century ago, and produces top quality pulpwood spruce. Although they used to supply a huge array of wood-based economies, today many island stands are dangerously overgrown. There has been little island harvesting in the last 20 years. Details; profiles of Green Island, Monehgan, Deer Isle, and Allen Island logging companies.
