Abstract
When Chebeaque Island resident Charlotte "Pommy" Hatfield recognized the need and benefit for elderly residents to age in place on the island, she, along with twenty other island residents, organized the Island Commons, an assisted living facility to help these residents. Other islands have organized similar facilities. A description of the facilities, how they are funded and the services they provide are featured. [images]
