Abstract

An in-depth look at the Chesapeake Bay and one of the most complex environmental restoration efforts in history. Water quality monitoring and storm runoff cleanup are among the issues facing political, legal, and funding challenges. The bay's huge watershed encompasses various states, and its relative shallowness mean that pollutants stay in the waters for at least six months. Cleanup has required the cooperation of many states and partnerships, not all of which have been effective. 2025 cleanup goals are unlikely to be met, and the future of continuing efforts rests on such collaboration.
