Abstract

Elaine Crossman reflects on the art gallery she has run for 20 years and why it has been so successful. Herself a trained painter, Crossman moved to Vinalhaven in 1976 and watched as island artists sold their work on the mainland. She thought she could find buyers among the seasonal and year-round islanders (she was right) and contribute to Main Street culture.
