    Abstract

    Mark Woodward of the Benchmark commercial building firm in Portland estimates that design/build has claimed a 50 percent share of the construction market. Design/build buildings are designed, drafted, bid, and built by the same firm, in which the architect is typically the master builder as well. With new technology, small firms like Benchmark and House Calls Inc. in Windham can compete with larger architects but retain control over all aspects of the building process.
