Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on Jack Jensen, who recently bought the Philips-Elmet lighting components plant in Lewiston, now called Elmet Technologies. He had long seen unrealized potential in the plant's refractory metals business, which makes components for the semi-conductor and medical industries, and had tried to buy the company from N.J.-based Philips Lighting Co. for years. Jensen graduated from Deering High School in Portland and went to Westbrook College's night school before rising through the ranks of Philips Lighting.
