Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on Sheridan Steele, the new superintendent of Acadia National Park. According to Steele, a native of Ohio, the degree of support Acadia managers receive from the business community is both unusual and welcome, given the financial pressures on the nation's parks. Steele sees Acadia's relationship with L.L. Bean, which donated $1 million last summer to support a propane-powered bus system, as a model for future collaboration with businesses in Maine and elsewhere.
