Abstract
"Focus on the Outdoors" piece on the shortage of boat slips in Portland Harbor, and various proposals to add more slips. Maine Yacht Center's new facility at the entrance of Portland's Back Cove already has space for 100 boats and is going after an upscale clientele. George Drivas, owner of Maine Shipyard in South Portland, hopes to add 234 new slips to the yard's existing 80, part of a plan that includes changing the name of the facility to Aspasia Marina. Adding more slips is expensive, and developers face regulatory and community concerns. Not everyone agrees that hundreds of new slips are the best solution. With a list of existing slips in Portland Harbor.
