Abstract
"Focus on the Outdoors" piece on new action sports marketing firms in Portland, part of a nationwide trend of marketers using action, adventure and extreme sports to market to Generation Y, the children of baby boomers. Skip Winter, CEO of Fringe Marketing in Portland, says action sports provide an efficient, cost-effective way for companies to reach young men, traditionally a difficult demographic to reach. Fringe Marketing was launched in April in partnership with Garrand & Company, a full-service marketing firm in Portland. Aura 360, another new action sports marketing firm in Portland, is partnered with VIA, the state's largest marketing firm. With comments by Peter Carlisle, Portland-based director of Olympic and action sports at Octagon, a global sports marketing agency.
