Abstract
The southern Maine coast has become a national hotspot in the rapid expansion of the park trailer industry. Park trailers are essentially small houses on wheels, with footprints of no more than 400 square feet. The park trailers' small size keep them from being classified as recreational vehicles (RVs) rather than as manufactured housing, which are considered full-time residences, subject to property taxes, which park trailers are not. Most park trailers cost less than $55,000, with $33,000 being the industry average. With industry statistics and information on some of the Maine campgrounds, such as Yankeeland Campground in Kennebunk and Meadowledge RV Resort in Wells, that accommodate park trailers.
