Abstract
"The Food Issue" piece on the Maine Goat Meat Project, developed to try to meet the demand for goat meat, spurred by Maine's growing population of East African immigrants. Experts peg the local demand at as many as 900 goats monthly. Last month the project produced the Maine Goat Meat Directory, which hopes to connect consumers with the 50 goat producers across the state, most of them goat dairies. Currently it does not appear that goat meat from Maine can be economically competitive with goat meat from other states that is sold in Maine.
