Abstract

"Business Maine: Northern" piece on West Chester, Penn.-based SMIS Group LLC, which recently announced plans to open a $60 million sawmill in Sapling Township. SMIS purchased 300 acres in the township, which is located near Moosehead Lake, for a sawmill that would employ 100 people. Gov. John Baldacci said he supports the proposal, and noted that the main reason for the company's desire to locate in Maine is the Pine Tree Development Zone program.
