Abstract

An article on the Eastport-based Adventure Recreation and Tourism Program, under director Scott Fraser, in which participants earn either a one-year certificate or two-year associate's degree in nature-based and heritage tourism and can transfer to a four-year program such as Parks and Recreation Tourism at the University of Maine. In an interview Fraser, he says he prefers the term "nature-based tourism" to "eco-tourism," which in northern Maine has become negatively identified with the national park debate.
