Abstract

"Business Maine: Central & Western" piece briefly reporting that Poland Spring Water Co. has agreed to settle one of 11 class-action lawsuits alleging that its bottled water does not come from a spring and is not as pure as the ads claim. According to a Poland Spring spokeswoman, the company, owned by Nestle Waters North America, decided on the $12.1 million settlement for business reasons. Thomas Sobol, the attorney who filed against Poland Spring in Connecticut in early July, said the company is attempting to use the settlement, scheduled to be heard in Kane County, Illinois, to invalidate consumer complaints in the other class actions.
