Abstract
"Focus on Western Maine" piece on Bath-based Harris Golf, which stepped up to build Sunday River Golf Club when the Newry resort's financially-troubled owners, American Skiing Company (ASC), could not. Sunday River Golf Club, a joint venture with the resort and ASC, is 95 percent owned by Harris Golf. In its decade of existence, Harris Golf has grown from a father-son team who worked in golf retail and then small course development to a firm of 100 employees running three courses and a large retail store. Harris Golf owns and operates Boothbay Country Club, Bath Country Club and Harris golf Shop, a 6,000-square-foot retail operation in South Portland. With a related article reporting that John Cleese, the British actor/comedian, will appear as a spokesman for Sunday River Golf Club in print and broadcast advertisements.
