Abstract

"Focus on Lewiston-Auburn" piece on new development in the area. In 2002, Lewiston was first in the state in the number of new business expansions and investments greater than $500,000, and Auburn tied for second place. Lewiston was second in net new jobs created in the state. The Twin Cities new logo, "It's happening here!" is popping up all over. Among a number of new projects, a lower Lisbon St. redevelopment will create new office space for Oxford Networks and Northeast Bank in Lewiston, a step forward for the Lisbon Street Gateway project. That area has been the most blighted area of downtown, and the activity is a sign that the city is moving toward a post-manufacturing economy. Auburn has a new Festival Plaza and a new Garden Hilton Inn, and more people are traveling to the area on business. The expanding Portland and L-A urban areas now abut each other.
