Abstract
"Focus on the Augusta-Waterville Region" piece on Run of the River Project, a proposal by Jeff McCabe and others to build a whitewater park along a section of the Skowhegan Gorge by creating artificial features that will draw kayakers. Organizers hope it will be completed in time to be used as a training venue for the 2012 Summer Olympics and that it will give a continued economic boost to the town. Greg Dore, Skowhegan's road commissioner and chairman of the project committee, has brought the project, whose estimated cost is some $1.5 million, to the attention of town officials. A feasibility study has been done. With details on possible environmental, regulatory and other obstacles to the plan and on the development schedule.
