Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on a recent report by American City Business Journals that ranked communities on "small business vitality." It ranked the Greater Portland area No. 1 in the country among 91 markets with more than 500,000 residents. Among 284 medium-sized markets, Augusta-Waterville ranked 81st, greater Bangor 109th, and Lewiston-Auburn 147th. Among 556 small markets, Rockland ranked 49th. The challenge will be to spread vitality throughout the state.
