Abstract

"Capitolism." Rhonda Waterman of the Maine Department of Transportation, is the only official in state government still committed to implementing the metric system on road signs, a conversion which is mandated by the federal government and which no one apparently wants. There is even a Wiscasset artist, Seaver Leslie, who has founded an anti-metric organization (Americans for Customary Weights and Measures) and newsletter (The Footprint).
