Abstract

"Business Maine" piece on the Maine Economic Growth Council's new, shortened, "Measures of Growth" report, which looks at 18 measures of growth rather than 68. Maine continues to fall short in the cost of doing business, its local and state tax burden, and the cost of health care. Maine's health care costs grew to 17.6 percent of GSP last year, compared to 10 percent of GSP in 1990. Maine is making progress on 11 of the 18 measures included in this year's report.
