Abstract
"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on Seattle-based Plum Creek Timber Co.'s plan to build two resorts and almost a thousand homes in the Moosehead Lake region. A group including a former Maine attorney general has filed a petition with the Maine Land Use Regulatory Commission (LURC) calling for a moratorium on all large-scale development in the area until LURC completes a regional plan for Moosehead, as it committed to do in 1997. LURC says results of a plan the commission completed for the Rangeley area are "promising" and a plan could be drawn up for the Moosehead region in perhaps two or three years. Rep. Henry Joy, R-Crystal, fears Plum Creek might subdivide and sell the Moosehead land if a moratorium is adopted.
