Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on Carl Leinonen, 50, of Scarborough, whose career in organized labor includes 15 years in the Augusta offices of the Maine State Employees Association. Leinonen has taken a new position as regional organizing director of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). He hopes to bridge the gap between SEIU and union organizations in other countries. He travels abroad frequently and commutes almost weekly to Washington, D.C., where SEIU's headquarters are located.
